Fatah, the organization currently headed by Mahmoud Abbas, was founded by arch Terrorist Yasser Arafat, has killed 463 people over the last 40 years, and continues to oversee terrorist activity
Fatah was created in the 1950s to promote armed struggle to liberate all of the land of Israel and Jewish presence, has maintained a number of militant groups since its founding. Fatah's popularity among Palestinian-Arabs grew until it took control of the PLO in 1968.
Terrorist groups such as: the Al-Aqsa Martyr's Brigade, Tanzim, Force 17, Hawari Group, PLF, and PFLP originated from the Fatah party and have been responsible for thousands of Israeli deaths including the
1972 murder of 11 of Israel's Olympic athletes in Munich and the 1985 hijacking of the Achille Lauro cruise ship (resulting in the murder of wheelchair-bound Leon Klinghoffer).
In January 2006, Fatah suffered a shocking defeat to Hamas in Palestinian parliamentary elections. Fatah's loss of power has profoundly changed the Palestinian political landscape, and factional clashes between Fatah and Hamas have consumed the Gaza Strip, leading to deaths on both sides.
On February 5, 2008, the Al-Aqsa Brigades, a militant offshoot of Fatah, claimed responsiblity for a homicide bomber attack that killed one and injured 11 in the Israeli city of Dimona.
